He, along with his friend Shining Armor, became officers in the Canterlot City Police Department where Azure eventually earned the rank of lieutenant. After a tense but friendly relationship, he married his superior officer, Captain Celaeno, with whom he fathered a child, Gale Blitzwing. After being gravely wounded one day on the job, Azure quit the force and settled down with a job at Crystal Prep, teaching world history.
