No one really knows much about Shovel, not even her real name. Shovel was found on a quarry where she resides by herself. Once asked what her name was, she pointed at her cutiemark, a shovel. From there, she was nicknamed, "Apparently Shovel" to which she decided to roll with. Despite having the curiosity and innocence of a very small child, she is quite intellectual, having almost the same mentality as an adult.
